Welcome to First Steps!
First Steps is an interactive discipleship course that encourages ordinary church members to disciple new followers of Jesus Christ.
How does First Steps work?
The course pairs a new believer (a learner) with someone more experienced (who we call a mentor). Over the course of 12 sessions, the mentor and learner meet to study, discuss, read the Bible and pray.
The aim is to equip the learner with some of the key skills and knowledge they need for their walk with Jesus. The course also prepares the learner to become a mentor in turn.
What does First Steps cover?
The course is split into three learner booklets, each with four sessions:
Starting your life with Jesus
- What following Jesus means
- Baptism in water
- Being Spirit-filled
- The importance of belonging
Growing in your relationship
- Making sense of the Bible
- Talking to God
- Changing your lifestyle
- Handling your resources
Going the distance
- Staying on course
- Getting involved
- Sharing about Jesus with others
- Helping others to grow
There is also a Mentor's Handbook which provides help and advice for mentors, including notes to prepare them for each session with the learner.
